The thing about parenthood is that none of us do it perfectly. It doesn’t matter how much we read parenting books or listen to podcasts from the experts. All of us are one toddler tantrum away from having a nervous breakdown in a closet with a secret stash of chocolate. Trust me, I get it. Not only am I a Missoula family photographer, but I’m also a parent myself. I’ve seen it all, and now, I’m here to tell you about the best resources for every stage. If you could use some guidance, I would love to introduce you to your new besties at The Parenting Place in Missoula!
1644 S. 8th St. W, Missoula, Montana 59801
The Parenting Place was created to build better, happier families all across the Missoula area. This nonprofit organization was founded so they could stop child abuse and neglect throughout the area. Their mission is to stop child abuse before it even happens. They do this through several methods. First, they offer resources like classes and programs to parents experiencing the stress you typically face in the trenches of those early years. Next, they train experts to recognize the signs of trauma and abuse. Lastly, they create support systems where you can turn for those really rough days. This wonderful program has been breaking the cycle one family at a time!
While The Parenting Place Missoula has a lot of great resources, their parenting classes remain the best. Their primary class is called the Nurturing Parenting Program. This is a 12-week program created for parents of kids of all ages. It doesn’t matter if you are the unicorn of a parent who always keeps their cool under pressure; you are still going to learn a ton! These non-judgmental classes will teach you things like empathy, realistic expectations for your child, how to effectively discipline, and how to encourage independence in your child. They rely on an evidence-based curriculum that has been used across the globe. You can take this class on your own, or you can go together with your partner at no extra cost.
In addition to their Missoula parenting classes, The Parenting Place has a fantastic Trauma 101 class. This is a must for pretty much anyone who works with kids. With this course, you are going to learn how to recognize the signs of trauma, how to create an environment for healing, and how to provide trauma-informed care. This class will last between 2-4 hours and will allow you to customize the time according to your needs.
With The Parenting Place in Missoula, you are going to have the tools you need to be the best parent for your family! Schedule your course soon so you can see the power of this group!
