Once you have a baby, your time for self-care goes right out the window. Even those rare, peaceful showers are filled with phantom cries that force you to get out as fast as possible. You need a way to unwind and focus on yourself for an hour. FIT4MOM in Missoula was founded to give moms a way to get active without having to stress about childcare. As a Missoula birth photographer, I have gotten the chance to chat with parents who have seen the benefits firsthand. Here’s why I adore this group!
FIT4MOM is a company with over 1,800 locations all across the country, including Missoula! The group was started by Lisa Druxman shortly after she became a mom in 2001. Lisa had always been incredibly passionate about fitness, and she didn’t see why she should have to stop just because she had a new addition. She created an exercise routine specifically for new moms just like herself. Before long, it caught on in popularity, with new locations popping up everywhere. Since then, the programs have only gotten better. You can join them for their trademark Stroller Stride or try out a postpartum yoga class. No matter what stage of parenthood you’re in, they have just the thing for you! While this is a national program, each location is locally owned and operated, so you can have sessions customized to your community.
While FIT4MOM has a number of other programs, their Missoula Stroller Strides remain my absolute favorite! These happen at parks all across Missoula, including Bonner Park, Toole Park, and Maclay Nature Trail. These strides are available for moms who are at least six weeks postpartum. Just as their name suggests, they let you put your baby in a stroller and take a cruise on a trail. They also incorporate strength training using your sweet babe. It’s a great way to bond with your little one while getting to meet other local moms!
They also offer Stroller Barre. Much like the strides, these classes bring in your stroller while you do classic barre movements. The sessions last for 60 minutes and take place outside. You will get your heartrate up while building up your strength and increasing your mobility.
One thing I adore about FIT4MOM is their commitment to helping you build community in Missoula. They want to make sure you have the village you need to make those early years a little easier. While they have classes that let you include your baby, they also have mom-only options. Their Body Boost classes invite you to come in and just focus on yourself for an hour. These sessions are a perfect balance of cardio, core training, strength training, and meditation.
