There are a lot of amazing ways to get out in Missoula to enjoy the wild west. My personal favorite? Going sledding! Once the snow falls, we have several spots just perfect for racing! As a Missoula family photographer, I adore working with families so they can make memories through pretty much every season. Here are the best spots for sledding in Missoula!
LindaVista Blvd, Missoula, Montana 59801
Rainbow Park might seem inconspicuous when you drive by it, but it’s home to some of the best sledding in the Missoula area. While it does tend to get a little busy, the hill is wide, giving you plenty of space to tear through the snow without fear of running into anyone else. Just a heads up, this hill can be pretty steep! It’s generally pretty safe, but younger kids might not like it as much as other local options.
5500 Blue Mountain Road, Missoula, Montana 59804
If you need a good place for group sledding, Blue Mountain is your Missoula spot! Located just off Blue Mountain Road, this tends to be the hill Missoula goes to sled. Yes, expect some crowds. If you can get past that, though, you are going to have the time of your life. This is another hill that is better for older kids, especially because it does get a lot of traffic.
134 Tahoe Drive, Missoula, Montana 59801
When it comes to the best places for younger kids, Wapikiya is perfect! This hill has a few advantages. To start out, it’s not nearly as steep as the other options. Because it doesn’t pack as much as a punch, it doesn’t draw the same amount of crowds. The park also has slightly bigger hills where older kids can test out.
LindaVista Blvd, Missoula, Montana 59803
Nicole Park is pretty close to Rainbow Park with smaller sledding hills perfect for all ages in Missoula! It does get some crowds, but most people stick with Rainbow Park’s steeper slopes. Nicole Park has some slower paced hills that let you take advantage of the cold weather without the stomach-dropping thrills.
515 South Ave E, Missoula, Montana 59801
Don’t sleep on the University of Montana’s Golf Course! This area has a great spot on the southeast corner of the school, right next to Hole #3, and you can access it through the South Summit Trail. This spot gives you a great mix of everything. Younger kids can try out the smoother runs, while the adrenaline junkies are going to love getting thrown by the bumps. There are even a few jumps along the way!
The next time the forecast calls for snow, pack up your sled and head to one of these three spots for sledding in Missoula! With options for the entire family, you are about to have the best winter ever.
