Maybe I’m a little biased, but Missoula becomes pretty darn magical during the wintertime! As the temps dip and the snow falls, we all get out to chase our own adventures. If you have been looking for a new way to celebrate this wonderful season, I’m here for you! As a Missoula family photographer, I adore working with families to help them make the most of every moment. Here are the winter activities around Missoula I always recommend!

If you are looking for the best way to enjoy the snow, Discovery Ski Area is your Missoula winter activities spot! They have equipment rentals, and there are on-site restaurants, so you can grab some grub before heading back out.

Missoula Figure Skating Club

1101 South Avenue West, Missoula, Montana 59801

The Missoula Figure Skating Club is an amazing winter activity for skaters of all levels! Even if you’re feeling a little shaky on the ice, they have resources and classes that will help you build up your confidence. Their sessions are available for kids as young as 2, and they even offer classes for teens and adults! Once you’re feeling ready, you can head over to the Glacier Ice Rink for hours of free skating!

Snowmobiling

All over!

While sledding tends to be a family favorite, don’t sleep on snowmobiling! We have several spots across the city that offer snowmobile rentals so you can tear through the snow and make some memories! Some of the top spots include Lolo Pass, Seeley Lake, Garnet, and Haugan. If you could use some help finding your perfect spot, I would recommend heading over to destinationmissoula.org and checking out some of their recommendations!

Dogsledding at Paws Up

Want to know the cutest winter activity to tour the town of Missoula? Then head over to Paws Up! This resort offers dog sledding for kids ages 3 and up. You will have two options for your ride: you can take it nice and leisurely with their dogsled tour (lasting one hour), or you can take it to the next level with their Iditarod experience (lasting two hours). Once you’re done, you can head back to the resort for some hot cocoa!

Snow Tubing is available as a complimentary activity exclusively for guests at their hotel, so I would recommend reserving a room and having the best staycation ever!
