Explore How Grow Music Missoula Inspires Creativity and Joy

As a Missoula family photographer, I’m always on the lookout for community programs that nurture creativity and connection, especially for kids. Grow Music Missoula is one of those rare gems that does both beautifully. Founded in 2015, this nonprofit offers inclusive, youth-centered music education that goes far beyond lessons. Whether your child is just starting or already performing, Grow Music is where young musicians can learn and belong.

What makes it extra special is the heart behind the mission. The instructors at Grow Music aren’t just teaching—they’re building relationships, encouraging leadership, and cultivating a deep love for music that reaches beyond technique. Their programs are customized to each child’s needs and abilities, with an emphasis on belonging over perfection. Music becomes a language of expression, confidence, and joy. It’s not about being the best in the room—it’s about becoming more fully yourself through sound and rhythm. As a parent, there’s something powerful about watching your child light up when they discover what they’re capable of. And as someone who documents family life through photography, I see the impact of programs like this on the way families grow together.

About Grow Music Missoula

800 Kensington Ave. #LL5, Missoula, MT 59801

Grow Music offers individual and group classes in violin, viola, cello, and early childhood music. Their programs are designed to meet each student where they are, making music education accessible and joyful for all. A standout initiative is the Crescendo Club, which partners with local public schools to provide weekly string clinician visits, mentorship, and scholarships, ensuring that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of a child’s musical journey.

Specialty

What makes Grow Music truly stand out is its focus on creating meaningful performance and mentorship opportunities that connect young musicians with their community. One shining example is “Grow Music Presents,” a live performance series held in collaboration with the Missoula Public Library. These events showcase student musicians alongside professional artists, giving young performers a chance to shine in front of a supportive audience. It’s more than a recital—it’s a celebration of growth, talent, and the shared joy of making music together.
