Christmas is truly one of the most magical seasons around, especially when you have younger kids. This is your chance to create a new tradition and make memories that will last long after these years are gone. If you are looking for the very best way to get into the holiday spirit, why not plan a visit to see the Christmas lights? As a Missoula family photographer, I love working with parents to create memories throughout every season. Here are the best spots where you can see Christmas lights in Missoula.
218 East Main Street, Suite C, Missoula, Montana 59802
In Downtown Missoula, the city hosts their annual Holidays on Higgins with tons of Christmas lights. Things kick off on the first Saturday of December, where you can come and watch a float parade followed by the tree lighting ceremony. There will be bonfires and carolers as well as activities for visitors of all ages. Once the lights are up, they’ll stay on all the way through Christmas. It’s a perfect way to hang out, support some local businesses, and get in the holiday spirit!
3401-3499 South Ave W, Missoula, Montana 59804
If you are the type of person who prefers to see Christmas lights while on the go, you might just want to sign up for the Light the Way 5K in Missoula. Each year, toward the end of December, the paths around Fort Missoula are lit up for the race. There will be a 5K for adults as well as a ½ mile fun run for kids. Yes, it will be chilly, but once you reach the finish line, you’ll be greeted with delicious cookies as well as hot cocoa. It’s one of the best traditions in town!

9268 Snapdragon Dr, Missoula, Montana 59808
Christmas on Snapdragon is a homemade tradition right here in the heart of the city! Each year, Jacob and Sheyenne Robinson join forces with Adam and Wendy Terry to create a display for anyone who wants to stop by. They put up over 10,000 lights as well as 50 inflatables guaranteed to get you into the holiday season. Be sure to check the schedule because throughout the month, they’ll have different visitors, including Jack Frost, the Grinch, and Santa himself!
1186 Hanlan St, Stevensville, Montana 59870
Candy Cane Lane is an annual Christmas lights event that takes place each year just outside Missoula in Stevensville. Each year, the city decorates a quarter of a mile with Christmas lights, creating a display the entire family will love. The very first night of the celebration, they close down the road to cars to give visitors a chance to stroll beneath the lights. After that, you can hop into your vehicle, grab some blankets and some Christmas tunes, and go for a ride.
If you are looking for a favorite new tradition to share with your family, I just know you are about to fall in love with these Christmas lights in Missoula. Plan your visit so you don’t have to miss out on a single memory!
